Lennox Head

Lennox Head is a seaside village on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia, situated on the stretch of coast between Byron Bay and Ballina in Ballina Shire.
The village has grown considerably in recent years and remains ever popular with beach-goers, sea-changers, and holiday-makers. Lennox (as it is frequently called) was once separated from Ballina by some distance, the northern encroach of Ballina and the southern advancement of Lennox Head has meant that little now separates them.
Lennox Head is a family friendly destination offering self-catering holiday units, resorts, backpackers and B&B's in a welcoming village atmosphere. Attracting surfers from around the world with its legendary right hand waves ensures Lennox Head remains of Australia's Top 10 surf breaks. From the Lennox Point, you can watch the waves roll in, see hang gliders take flight from cliffs rising 65 metres from the ocean and see humpback whales as they migrate along the coast. The headland offers sweeping views over The Village and up Seven Mile Beach towards Broken Head and Cape Byron.
For the sight-seer, Pat Morton lookout (at the headland) offers spectacular views of the village and of Seven Mile Beach extending up towards Broken Head.
The town is well known for its pub (considered a local icon), caravan park, as well as Lake Ainsworth, a freshwater lake that has distinctive tannin-stained waters from the surrounding tea trees and is in stunning contrast with the white sands of Seven Mile Beach. Over the warmer summer months the lake is subject to blue green algae bloom.
A short drive north along the picturesque Coast Road will take you to Byron Bay where one can experience all the attractions and enjoy the many festivals that this artistic, bohemian area has to offer. Heading south past Boulders Beach, Flat Rock and Skennars Head to Ballina you can be easily overwhelmed by the dazzling water views over the full coastal panorama.

ANCESTORAL INFORMATION
Long before Captain Cook and Joseph Banks on the Endeavour caught sight of the wonderful headlands of this area The Bundjalung tribe of aborigines were residents.
According to their Dreamtime tales, 3 brothers settled at Seven Mile Beach. Yarbirri, one of the brothers, thrust his spear into the sand and a flow of fresh water began. At low tide there is said to be a stain marking this spot.
Also located in the village (Gibbon St) is a Bora ring of some significance to the local Bundjalung Tribe.
